Is Noosa Optical a chain store?

Noosa Optical is a private, independent, family owned and operated practice.  Owners Catherine Tromp and Shane Tromp have owned and managed Noosa Optical since March 2007.  Both work full time in the practice, Catherine as an optometrist and Shane as manager and dispenser.

As a member of ProVision, we have the strength of a national network of over 370 practices and subscribe to the range of corporate resources on offer by ProVision.  Included in our comprehensive membership to ProVision, staff receive regular training and attend workshops and seminars, ensuring we offer the most up to date knowledge available.

You can feel good about choosing Noosa Optical over internationally owned optical retailers.

Why do some frames cost more than others?

You may have noticed recently many frames and complete glasses packages advertised at a low cost. It raises the question, why should I pay a premium for more expensive frames?

In this case, the old adage “you get what you pay for” is right.

If you are looking for premium quality, unique design and innovative and lasting construction, then you can expect the outlay to be greater. However, it is an investment that will return you greater value for money in the long run.

We will happily show you the differences, obligation free.  We strongly believe in the value of quality.

Who sets optometry consultation fees?

Optometrists fees are set by Medicare. Unlike doctors, optometrists are not allowed to charge more than the Medicare fees. They sign an agreement with the Government to this effect. Medicare normally rebates between 85 and 100 per cent of optometrists’ consultation fees.

Medicare pays towards most consultations leaving a gap amount of less than $11 in most cases.  Some consultations relating to the prescription of contact lenses are not covered.  Medicare has rules that apply to optometrist fees and rebates.

More information on consultation fees, rebates and the conditions applying to them can be provided on request.

What are the differences in optical lenses?

You are probably unaware that there is a huge range of optical lenses to choose from.

It is important to be aware that not all optical lenses are the same, even though they appear much the same from the outside.  There are important built-in features with premium lenses that make them significantly clearer, more durable, lighter and better for your eyes.

Less expensive lenses are pre-finished and produced in bulk volumes. Premium optical lenses are manufactured to order and are built specifically for your eyes.  There will be a cost difference, but the difference to your vision is far more significant and valuable to your daily life.

Always insist on a list of features and benefits to compare different lenses before a choice is made.

Visit the ProVision website for detailed information on optical lenses.

Where can I find information on my eye problems?

Detailing every eye condition is beyond the scope of this website and we believe that you should seek this information from a professional source such as your Optometrist or GP.

We would much rather talk to you in person and help you clearly understand your eyes.

However, start by visiting the ProVision website for detailed and accurate information on many eye conditions.

When should I get an eye test?

Every person should have their eyes tested and checked by an Optometrist at least every 2 years, starting from childhood.

Most eye diseases and conditions in Australia are preventable through early detection and treatment.

You will receive a Medicare rebate of between 85 - 100% of a regular eye examination, leaving only a small gap of less than $11 for a general eye examination.

Can I use my private health insurance?

Yes!  The choice of optometrist is entirely yours, with benefits applying regardless of your health insurer.

As an eligible eyewear provider to members of all health funds, rebates can be claimed on prescription frames and lenses, prescription sunglasses and contact lenses.

To make it easy, fast and convenient for you to claim your rebate, we have installed the latest Hicaps technology. This enables us to process your health insurance claims electronically.

Remember to make the most your optical benefits, before a new entitlement period begins, normally at the start of the calendar year.  Unused entitlements will not generally roll over into the next year.
