Selecting a Contact Lens
Contact lenses provide a useful and functional alternative to spectacle frames.  As with spectacle lenses, contact lenses are a prescription item.  It is common to require a different lens for each eye.  Contact lens prescriptions must be updated every 6 months.

Our optometrists will assist you in selecting from the range of contact lens types available.  The optometrist will "fit" contact lenses to ensure they are an appropriate choice.  Contact lens after care consultations are also recommended to enable our optometrist to detect any change or disease, that may be associated with contact lens wear as early as possible.

Each design will have its benefits and each person will have their preference for type of lens.

Factors to consider:

-           how often contact lenses will be worn
-           is the contact lens the primary visual aid, or will the contact lens be used  when                spectacles are not appropriate such as when playing sport
-           how often would the wearer like to replace the lenses
-           expense variation of lens types
-           occupation and lifestyle of the lens wearer

The optometrist will guide you in choosing the most appropriate lens for your needs and may provide a trial lens set for you to “try before you buy”.

Online contact lenses:

Purchasing contact lenses online is common as contact lenses are often cheaper in online stores.  Contact lens wearers that purchase their contact lenses online are often unaware of the potential problems and health risks associated with contact lens wear. Contact lenses pose a significant risk to ocular health and vision if they are not professionally prescribed or if they are not used and maintained correctly.

Online stores are not able to provide eye health care and are unlikely to provide any useful assistance in the event of eye health problems that arise from wearing contact lenses.  Noosa Optical does not recommend purchasing contact lenses online.

Factors to consider before purchasing contact lenses online:

-  product guarantee
-  age of product, particularly in uncommon scripts
-  optimum storage conditions of the contact lenses
-  postage costs from interstate / overseas sellers
-  scripts and product quality control
-  additional taxes and duties for purchases from foreign stores

By purchasing your contact lenses online, you are limiting your optometrist’s ability to detect any potential eye health hazards that may be associated with wearing contact lenses.
