Types of Contact Lens
Today’s contact lenses are entirely of the soft variety.  They have a high water content which improves wearing comfort and also allows quicker adaptation to wearing and felxibility in wearing.  Soft contact lenses are mostly disposable.

Daily Disposables

These are the ultimate in convenience as they are worn only once and require no storage after wearing.  They are a popular choice for convenience and intermittent wearing such as for sport or social occasions.

Monthly Disposables

These are convenient and cost effective.  They require storage and cleaning for up to one month of use.  They are a popular choice for regular wearers.

Extended Wear Lenses

These lenses are the newest variety and allow better oxygen penetration of the contact lens.  This allows these lenses to safely remain in the eye for up to 30 days without removal and cleaning.  This has the advantage of providing 24hrs clear vision for the wearer.

Tinted Contact Lenses

Contact lenses may be tinted for a number of reasons:

Visibility Tints:  Designed to make handling the lenses easier.

Transparent Tints:  Designed to enhance natural eye colour.

Cosmetic Tints:  Used to cover or completely change an eye colour.

IMPORTANT:  Contact lenses are not a toy and should not be used without proper consideration and professional advice.  Incorrect use places the wearer's eyes at risk of serious disease.

Rigid Contact Lenses

These are no longer a popular choice due to expense and comfort but may still be prescribed by the optometrist for particular conditions.
